Heinrich Schütz (1585-1672) was a composer, organist, and chapel master in Dresden, Germany. Influenced by his studies in Italy as well as his Lutheran heritage, much of Schütz’s sacred music follows a rich concerto style and was a significant precursor to the Lutheran cantata. Read full biography.
